Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface for Wireless Channel Control
Abstract: The Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface (RIS) is a key technology in wireless communication for channel control. RIS, a planar array of passive reflecting elements, can adjust the amplitude and phase of incident electromagnetic waves. For wireless channel control, RIS has multiple benefits. It can enhance the signal - to - noise ratio (SNR) by focusing energy towards the receiver. Also, it mitigates interference by deflecting interfering signals. Moreover, RIS enables customized wireless channels, like creating a line - of - sight - like channel in non - line - of - sight situations. The design and optimization related to RIS involve considerations like reflection coefficient determination and its placement. However, challenges are present. Channel estimation is more complex with RIS. RIS elements have hardware constraints in adjustment, and efficient control algorithms are needed due to a large number of elements. Overall, RIS has great application potentials in wireless channel control despite these challenges.
